In its simplest form, telematics can be defined as the combination of
telecommunication and computing. Most often the term telematics refers
to vehicle telematics, where a vehicle (car, truck, ship, bulldozer etc.)
with an on-board computer (often referred to as a black box) can communicate
with a server via a mobile communication network such as radio, GSM or
satellite.
In a fleet management application, the black box is located (on a map,
with coordinates) via GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites. It
can also have access to various vehicle sensors (temperature, weight
etc.) and even the in-vehicle computer. Data such as the vehicle’s
speed, position, distance traveled, fuel level etc. is then relayed via
a communication network – for example as sms messages in the GSM
network - to a central server where the data is processed and distributed
to the user via the Internet. In Scope’s telematics solution, the
user can directly communicate with or send commands to the vehicle – useful,
for example, in the case of vehicle theft, where the vehicle can be immobilised.

Scope’s telematic fleet management solution allows the fleet operator
total vehicle control. Benefits include increased productivity and maximised
efficiency through improved fleet utilisation. From a cost perspective,
both maintenance and operational costs will be reduced substantially.
Drivers can be monitored and their driving record improved, as well as
their personal safety enhanced. Not to be overlooked is the value of
being able to track and recover your assets – when you take into
account the high value of a truck and its load, it is a small price to
pay. This fact has been recognised by numerous insurance agencies around
the globe in reducing the premium for customers with a telematic fleet
management solution – yet another reduction in cost.
The answer is a resounding yes! From a purely financial perspective,
Scope’s customers have seen a ROI of up to 4 times, achieved through
increased productivity, higher utilisation and reduced costs. For example,
through Geofencing Route Management (GRM), clients are able to optimise
every delivery route, thus reducing the total distance driven with the
corresponding savings in fuel, tire usage, vehicle maintenance etc.
Scope’s telematic fleet management solution has been proven among
the best around the globe. For examples of how our solutions have helped
clients, please view Case Studies. One of our sales representatives is
looking forward to your Contact to discuss further references and explain
how Scope can help your clients gain total control of their fleet.
The Mobile Hub or MHub, is Scope’s on board vehicle computer or
black box. The MHub features leading edge telematics technology, including
among many other features GPRS communication (substantially less expensive
than SMS), access to in-vehicle networks (CANBUS) and dynamic Geofencing.
For more details, please view Hardware.
The MProfiler is Scope’s data distribution platform. Data collected
from the MHub is transmitted to the MProfiler via mobile communication
networks. The MProfiler then processes this data and delivers customised,
detailed reports via the Internet to the client - anytime, anywhere.
One of MProfiler’s major strengths is the ability process data
intelligently, and supply different recipients of data with their exact
requirements – eliminating the need of time consuming and costly
analysis of data on the part of the client. For more details, please
view Data Distribution Portal.
